Social and Emotional Learning

Social and emotional learning (SEL) has five core competencies, according to the Collaborative for Academic, Social and Emotional Learning Organization: Self-awareness, self-management, social awareness, relationship skills and responsible decision making.

  • Teaching children these skills has shown to improve executive functioning skills.

  • Children become more attentive and engaged as they learn.

  • Most importantly, children have been shown to become more hopeful and optimistic.

  • They also tend to show more perseverance and act more conscientiously.
